So you’re a product-based business owner and you just hired a photographer to take some amazing photos of your products. That means your job is done, right!? 😬 Not so fast.
Don’t worry – it’ll be easy. I gotchu.
Here are 3 pro tips to make sure your products photograph in the best way, and you get killer images back from your photographer.
- Product Prep – Before sending off your products, make sure they look their best! You want the photographed items to be the best examples of your work. Make sure fabrics are smooth and not wrinkly, labels are straight and not crooked, text is clear and not smudged, and that the overall product is free of imperfections!
- Send Extras – Send duplicates of each product, just in case one gets damaged during transport or during the session (sometimes, things can get messy!). It can also be helpful for the photographer to have multiples of one product in the shot!
- Send Props – If you already have on-brand props that would enhance the product photos (for example, a concrete vase maker including some dried floral), send them along! This saves time in sourcing additional props, and ensures that the props will match your brand and your vision!
A good product photographer will discuss your vision with you, and will plan a strategic product photoshoot that will meet the needs of your business. If this isn’t already a part of their process, make sure you communicate your vision to them (or have a planning meeting to come up with a vision together!).
