Planning for a brand photography session can be a little *overwhelming* to say the least. But I’m here to make the planning processes easy, and enjoyable – so here are some tips to help you get prepared and feel confident and ready for your session.
Spray Tan: I don’t know about you…but a fresh spray tan makes me feel like a dang goddess! I wouldn’t recommend getting a spray tan for the first time before your brand session, but if you’ve gotten them done before, and have a place/person you like to go to, then I highly recommend this! It’s important to do it at least a day or two before the session. This will give the tan time to set and look its best!
Hair: When it comes to your hair, it’s important to have it styled and ready to go the day of the session. Try to avoid any radical changes to your hairstyle before your session, and make sure to bring styling products with you (think hairspray, smoothing spray, bobby pins, etc.) in case you need to make any adjustments.
Makeup: This is a time to splurge! You’ve invested in these photos, and a great way to make sure you get the most out of them, is to treat yourself to a professional make-up application. Professional make-up generally lasts longer, and is more likely to photography well (generally, we need more make-up than we think, for it to show up well on camera!). Bring along a few items to touch-up as needed (lipsticks/glosses, concealer).
Manicure: Your hands may not be the main focus of your session, but you’d be surprised how much difference a nice manicure can make! Try to avoid super bold/distracting manicures (unless that fits you brand, of course), but classic reds/pinks/neutrals and french manicures are a great option!
Outfit/Accessory Prep: The night before your session, I recommend pairing each of your outfits together with the corresponding shoes and accessories. If you’ve got garment bags, put each outfit in a separate bag. Make sure all clothing items are free of wrinkles! Place jewelry for each outfit in a separate ziplock bag.
Props: Think about which props you want to use with which outfits, and have them grouped together as well. Your photographer may also have some ideas for what will work best, so if you’re not sure, just make sure you know where everything is!
Last minute details: Make sure your wrists are free of hair ties, consider removing any sport/smart watches (bare wrists and/or traditional watches give a more timeless look), make sure you don’t have any spinach in your teeth, and prepare to have some freakin’ fun!
